Meet the Year 5 teacher...
Miss R Mears
In the Year 5 team, we have the teacher, Miss Rosie Mears and the Learning Support Assistants, Mrs Janet Melrose and Mrs Jenny Hutchings. In year 5, we work closely with Year Six and Mr Pemberton (the year 6 teacher). We are really lucky in Year 5 and 6; we have a huge, shared learning space outside our classrooms which we call the Gateway Barn.
The school day begins at 8.50am and ends at 3.15pm with a 15 minute morning break at 10.30 and a 50-minute lunch beginning at 12.20pm. After lunch, we have assembly with the rest of the primary in the hall which we call The Cube.
In 5M, we have the same timetable each day; Maths, followed by Literacy, then Topic in the afternoon. As we’re an all-through school, we’re lucky enough to have secondary specialists teach lessons such as Science, French and PE. We work hard in Year 5; we’re focused and produce lots of high quality work. As many lessons as possible are linked to the International Primary Curriculum topic, including writing, Science and sometimes even Maths! We love earning marbles and house points in our class. Marbles are counted and prizes are given out each week. House points are counted and rewarded each half term and include children from Year 1 to Year 11.
Weekly home learning is given out every Friday and is always due the following Thursday. We use home learning and reading diaries to track any communication needed between home and school. Home learning follows the same layout each week. There is an online maths task, a research or writing task, 12 spellings (that are tested on Thursday) and as much reading at home with a grown up as possible!
We’re very welcoming in year 5, please pop in any time to come and see what we’re up to…
