Meet the Class 1S teacher...
Miss A Seabrook
In Year 1 the class are taught by the class teacher Amy Seabrook and Learning Support Assistant Louise Otridge, the children are also taught by Anwen Coburn-Lewis one day a week.
Learning in Year 1 happens in a variety of ways such as investigation and modelling and gradually moving from continuous provision the children are used to into more structured lessons.
Our day starts at 9:50 with choosing, challenges, guided reading and a dance to warm us up for the day’s learning. We have a daily Read Write Inc Phonics lesson where the children learn and practice sounds, reading and spelling words containing them. This is followed by Literacy, a morning break and a Topic lesson. Our Topic units are taken from the International Primary Curriculum which links History, Geography, PE, Art & ICT around a theme.
We go to lunch at 11:50am and have an hour break. After lunch we have Primary Assembly, Numeracy, an afternoon break and we finish the day with circle time and a story before going home at 3:05pm.
Great behaviour and learning is rewarded with House Points which contribute to the whole school totals and marbles for our class marble jar which we try to fill every day to earn a circle time game before we go home.
In Year 1 Home Learning is expected in the form of daily reading, which is recorded in the Home Learning Diary and spellings which are given out and checked on a Friday when any parent comments in the Diaries will be read. Children are also encouraged to use Sumdog where challenges linked to the learning in class will be set.
We like to celebrate our Topic learning each half term with a Show and Tell in the classroom for our grown-ups to come and see everything we have found out or made. Parents are
welcome to come in for a chat or to see what we are doing anytime or email any questions.
